The goal of the tZaman project is to build a native Java system for formatting and manipulating times and dates in multiple calendars and languages. The project name is composed of the Turkish word for time, Zaman (pronounced Zay-mon), and the Greek letter, t (pronouned tau), which denotes that it is part of the Temporal Access for Users (tau) project.
